BURN IS BACK!

FILMMAKERS LAUNCH FOLLOW UP TO AWARD-WINNING DETROIT FIREFIGHTER DOCUMENTARY; RETURN TO INDIANAPOLIS FOR FIREFIGHTER SUPPORT

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, April 21 – Directors Tom Putnam and Brenna Sanchez have launched a follow-up to BURN, their critically acclaimed, award-winning feature-length documentary about Detroit firefighters.

The two will be in Indianapolis attending FDIC, the annual firefighter convention, to drum up support from firefighters and manufacturers. The original BURN trailer premiered on FDIC’s Jumbotrons in 2012.

With tremendous grassroots support from the fire service, Putnam and Sanchez made more than a movie with BURN — they made history. Millions of first responders, civilians, and legislators saw the film in theaters, at home and in firehouses all over the world. Audience response was tremendous. BURN premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City and won the festival’s Audience Award. BURN became one of the most successful independent films of all time, the #1 documentary and independent film on iTunes for its digital release, and it maintains a perfect 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, PUTNAM AND SANCHEZ WERE ABLE TO DONATE MORE THAN $310,000 IN MUCH-NEEDED GEAR TO DETROIT FIREFIGHTERS.

The filmmakers aren’t calling the new release a sequel, but are referring to it as a follow-up to BURN. The new film, as yet untitled, features new stories, new characters, and delves more deeply into the lives of Detroit firefighters, and life in the city itself. Back by popular demand, several familiar faces from BURN make appearances in the new film as well.

“No one in the film industry believed in BURN, but first responders did, and together we knocked it out of the park,” said Detroit native Brenna Sanchez, the film’s director and producer with Tom Putnam. “Despite BURN’s success, broadcasters still won’t believe there’s an audience for firefighter content on TV or in movies. So we’re going back to our core audience. We’ll make another film we can all be proud of,” said Putnam.

In addition to millions of fans, the original BURN film enjoyed the support of corporate partners MSA, General Motors, Leary Firefighters Foundation, Apple Computers, and more.
